Molly's finished mitts

I finished Molly's two color mittens after what took way too long due to my own errors.  I used Cascade 220 yarn in a bright green and a purple and she loves them!  I saw her today at the rink and she had them on - ya hoo!

I'm teaching a class on these in February on Tuesday nights so there will definitely be another pair on my needles soon.  My photographer was TOM - thank you!

Drake's view

Our christmas gift this year was new furniture (finally) for our living room.

Drake isn't too sure of it yet.  The old furniture had a great oversized club chair that he could curl up on and put his head over the one arm and see out the window.  This one is a little more complicated to see out and sometimes it just isn't worth it!

Frosty!

I'm hoping that the fact that I was making a snowman hat had NOTHING to do with our getting all those inches of snow again!

This was a quick and easy hat that turned out adorable. I can't wait to see it on the little 1 year old girls head :-)

Goalies

This was the result of a puck hitting the glass when it missed the goal.  To say Jim jumped "a little" would be an understatement.   It's always good to have reminders of the force behind the pucks that our son is being hit by constantly during his games.

Do you think I could get him to be a couch potato instead?

Email joke on Computers

I've seen this one before but it always makes me smile:

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.

'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la casa.'
'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'

A student asked, 'What gender is a 'computer'?'

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your salary on accessories for it.

(THIS GETS BETTER!)

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had just waited a little longer, you could have got a much better model.

The women won. A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.

Goose Sausage and Goose Jerky

We took approximately 8 pounds of the breast meat from some geese and added an equal amount of hamburger to 1/2 of it.... and an equal amount of pork to the other half.   MANY hours later, we have a batch of Beef/Goose Jerky and Pork/Goose Breakfast Sausage.

...because I'm weird....

why yes, yes I am weird... but I really needed a picture so I could remember what they use to look like before the black rubber pucks started hitting them...

PS:  Please stop growing.  Six feet two (and 1/2) inches is a perfectly good size to be for the rest of your life (or until you start buying your own goalie equipment)

Killing time...

Our first hockey game on Saturday was at 10:00 am and our next game wasn't until 8:15 pm.  We spent some of that time wandering around the electronics store.... they were having fun with the 3D television.  ;-)

I got spoiled!

....so it was announced last Thursday that our office is moving to another of our company buildings in another town.  This makes my commute double what it was, which is all fine and dandy until we remembered that I'm currently driving the Silverado and getting 14 miles per gallon.

After much discussion and number juggling, we bit the bullet last night and brought home a new Prius.  I am not only spoiled to be getting this great vehicle to drive (when I'm the family member driving the furthest) but I also get both of "my" vehicles in the garage!  Spoiled Rotten

interesting basket

My friends at The Tangled Skein just got these in... it's a good thing they showed me the pattern for the great bags first or I might be really wondering what those ladies were up to!

gwynedd hat by Cecily Glowik MacDonald

I finished up this great gwynedd hat from the new KnitScene magazine and really like it... too bad I don't look very good in most hats!

It is knit with 1.25 skeins of Classic Elite Fresco yarn in a gorgeous purple color that my camera just doesn't want to capture very well.

Yarn Crawl - Happy Birthday Elizabeth!

Today a friend and I spent the entire day driving to 5 different yarn shoppes in the twin cities... 200 miles filled with fibery goodness!

How appropriate that Elizabeth Zimmerman was born 100 years ago on this day.  Here is a sampling of just some of her designs on Ravelry

Phew.... I'm off to relax in the air conditioning and fondle some of my new yarn!

Flying fun?

I was expecting to go through Salt Lake City on my flight (s) home from Idaho, however I wasn't expecting to fly over the southern United States and hit the Eastern time zone before arriving in Minnesota 3.5 hours later than I was scheduled.

Good news is that I earned just shy of 3,000 miles toward a free ticket instead of the 1,142 miles I was expecting.

Yes I am a geek

This made me laugh so hard I had tears come to my eyes. You may have had to have a conversation with a software company lately to truly appreciate it.

Outdoor Baseball!

We had the incredible experience of fantastic seats at the MN Twins baseball game last night.  What a beautiful place to watch baseball!

State Golfer!

Our "baby" made it to the MN State High School golf tournament this year. Way to go!

He tied for 21st place, just 2 fewer golf strokes and he would have been in the top 10. The golfer who got 1st place had only 6 strokes fewer than Chris.

It was an incredible experience to see so many talented golfers in one spot.

Graduation Open House

Our open house was wonderful - even though it was raining.... Thank goodness for an indoor space to gather in!
